Fall Foliage in Cape Breton, September 2008
September 30 - October 3
Cape Breton Island, where captivating landscapes and strong cultural roots combine to create a sumptuous feast for the senses.
The magic of Cape Breton in its entire fall foliage splendor will delight you from the moment you cross the Canso Causeway. Enjoy a leisurely drive to Cape Breton as we make stops enroute for breaks and lunch. After our first night stay in Port Hawkesbury, we will visit the Island Candy Shop for some tasty homemade sweets. Then we are off to explore the Celidih Trail. Stop at the Red Shoe Pub, owned by the Rankin sisters. Enjoy a musical demonstration at the Celtic Interpretive Center dedicated to the preservation of the island’s Celtic music. Our final stop before beginning the Cabot Trail will be at the Glenora Distillery. Enjoy a guided tour and tasting of the only single malt distillery in Canada.
Our overnight will be in Cheticamp. This is a busy fishing village with a thriving Acadian Culture. Cheticamp is a center for rug hooking and many other fine crafts that can be seen in craft shops, galleries, and museums on the island.
Spend the following day touring the spectacular Cabot Trail. There will be plenty of time for stops and picture-taking along the way before we make our way back to Port Hawkesbury for our final night before returning to Saint John
