Denmark
Denmark consists of the peninsula of Jutland and some 400 named islands. Of these, 82 are inhabited, with the largest being Funen and Zealand.
Copenhagen is the capital and a city full of zest and life. A pulsating metropol and historical oasis. It is easy to get around in Copenhagen by foot, metro, train, bus and boat. The Danish capital comes second in a survey of the world's Top 20 liveable cities by Monocle magazine.
Last year a survey found Denmark to be the happiest place in the world, based on standards of health, welfare, and education. Now the country's capital is ranked the second most liveable city in the world by Monocle magazine.
From the 8th to the 10th century, the Danes were known as Vikings. Together with Norwegians and Swedes, they colonised, raided and traded in all parts of Europe.
Among the best-known Danes are the writer Hans Christian Andersen, famous for his fairy tales.
