Formal military fort Terezín built in 18th century by emperor Joseph II. is inherently connected with the history of World War II. Better known as Big Fort - the town of Terezín itself was used as transit camp of Jews from the whole Europe and in the same time during visit of International Red Cross Organization it was misused for Nazi promotion purposes. The Grand Hotel Praha is located directly on the historical Royal Route, which also includes the Charles Bridge. The oldest stone bridge across the Vltava River and the second oldest bridge in the Czech Republic is a unique sight from which one can admire the beauty of Old Prague. Thanks to the unique accommodations in the historical center of Prague, you can follow the historical route from Old Town to the Little Quarter (Malá Strana) and Prague's Hradčany in a very short time.
The Old Town Square is the heart of historical Prague, surrounded by all the most important historical sights. Prague Castle, or Hradčany, is the most dominant structure of Prague and symbolically terminates the historical Royal Route, on which the Grand Hotel Praha is located.

Day 1 Wednesday, June 30: Depart Halifax
Leave Halifax on Condor Airline flights to Vienna, Austria via Frankfurt.

Day 2 Thursday, July 1: Arrive Vienna, Austria
Enjoy a brief panoramic tour introducing us to this charming city. The Courtyard Vienna is our home for the next two nights. Spend the afternoon at leisure or take some time to relax before dinner this evening. We gather this evening for a welcome briefing and dinner. (D)


Day 3
Friday, July 2: Vienna
Today see Austria’s magnificent state buildings, including the historic parliament, city hall, and the university plus the national theatre, Vienna State Opera and museums. Our city exploration continues past the Imperial Palace. This stately structure evolved over the centuries and is now home to Austria’s president. We also visit Schönbrunn Palace, summer home of the Imperial family and a superb example of Austrian Baroque. Afternoon and evening offers free time to explore Vienna on own. (B)

Day 4 Saturday, July 3: Vienna – Abbey Melk – Salzburg
Our scenic journey to Salzburg takes us through the beautiful Wachau Valley. We then follow the Danube River Valley en route for a visit to the monastery of Melk. Continue through the Lake District of Salzkammergut, the former imperial summer residence and favourite hunting ground of the Habsburg rulers to Salzburg., the city of Mozart and the Sound of Music. This evening we are in for a special treat – our Mozart Dinner during which young musicians perform and introduce us into the musical world of Mozart. (B&D)

Day 5
Sunday, July 4:Salzburg
Take a guided city stroll through the center – a pedestrian zone where you discover many historic sites related to Mozart. Salzburg which is also known as the “Rome of the North” has many magnificent monuments from both the Baroque and Renaissance periods. Designated as a World Heritage Site, Salzburg was ruled for centuries by Prince Archbishops. Highlights of our walk will include Mozart’s birthplace, St. Peter’s Church, Salzburg Cathedral and the Fortress of Hohensalzburg. The afternoon has been left free to explore Salzburg on own. (B&D)

Day 6
Monday, July 5:Austrian Alps
Today we drive to the Austrian Alpine area. Stops wil be made at the Austrian Resort Kitzbühel. Early afternoon we arrive in beautiful Tyrolean city of Innsbruck. A local guide will introduce us to the delights of this alpine center on a walking tour that will feature Innsbruck’s old town including the Hofkirche with its royal tombs and still-functional wooden organ (installed in 1560). We then come to Oberammergau and the play that we have long anticipated. (Hotel Schillingshof, H2 category hotel and 1A ticket, best seating for play. (B&D)

Day 7
Tuesday, July 6: The Passion Play
Your morning is free to enjoy the colorful paintings in the village. Following lunch , the highlight of the trip, the Passion Play in Oberammergau begins! The Play was instituted in fulfillment of a vow made in 1633, when the town was stricken by plague. It was performed for the first time in 1634 and since then has been played every ten years. It’s just a short walk from the hotel to the Theatre, which was built in 1930 and has seating for 4,800 spectators, while the seats are covered, the stage is open to the elements, using the natural grandeur of the region as a back-drop. Day 8
Wednesday, July 7: Neuschwanstein Castle and Munich
First we visit Neuschwanstein, King Ludwig’s white turreted fairytale castle overlooking Bavaria’s forested mountainside. Aftera guided tour, stop at the magnificent Church at Weis, a rococo masterpiece with a sublime ceiling fresco. Then enjoy some final alpine vistas as we head north to Munich. On arrival a local guide will introduce us to the sights of Bavaria’s capital, the Nymphenburg Palace, Marienplatz, Frauenkirche and the Olympic Stadium. Dinner and overnight in Munich. (B, D)

Day 9 Thursday, July 8: Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Today we focus on Germany’s Romantic Road, which passes the most attractive places between the River Rhine and the Alps. The highlight, beyond all doubt, is Rothenberg ob der Tauber which became a Mecca for visitors from all over the world. After ample time, we continue to the Frankfurt area. Hotel checkin for 3 nights – Maritim Rhein-Main in Darmstadt. (B, D)

Day 10 Friday, July 9: Heidelberg
Spend the day in Heidelberg, the symbol of German Romanticism to the entire world. Our local guide will show us the old university town dominated by the ruined red castle of the Palitine Electors, overlooking the town. Lunch and time on your own, before we head back to Darmstadt for a free evening. (B)

Day 11 Saturday Rhine and Wrap-up
Enjoying a half –day Rhine river cruise, visiting some sites made famous by German folklore, including the Lorelei. This evening we will visit a typical Rhine Valley winery for a wine tasting and vintner’s dinner. Overnight in Darmstadt (B, D)

Day 12 Sunday, July 11: Return Home
Airport transfer to Frankfurt Airport for your homebound flight. (B)
